What Are Termites?

Termite is the common name of a group of chemically complex insects that live in communities as ants do. They have long been known as white ants; however this is not entirely accurate, for termites are like ants only in their habits of living together and that they are small. Termites are actually more closely related to cockroaches and grasshoppers.

What Damage Can Termites Do?

Termites (also known as white ants) are all over Australia, causing damage to millions of homes everywhere they can find food. The problem is so bad that insurance companies will not cover termite damage in your home. If your house is infested with termites, you will have to pay to remove them and repair the damage.

How We Find Termites

Finding termites can be difficult, but knowing where they are located is essential when deciding on the correct eradication program. Traditional methods rely on knocking on wood and drilling.

Thermal detection cameras detect heat patterns. When termites invade buildings, they emit heat, and only a thermal imaging camera can isolate the problem so it can be fixed.

Termites can form a small colony within 2 months. They live in the dark and form large groups which generate heat when the bacteria in their gut break down and digest, and the thermal camera picks up this heat. They especially like warm areas around power points. A thermal imaging camera will detect the heat they emit.

How We Control Termites

Termite control is an essential part of our pest management services. They are one of the most destructive pests to a homeowner. There are several termite control solutions, and each person's situation needs to be considered. Do you need a chemical solution, or would a termite barrier be best? You can have physical barriers or chemical barriers. You may need a monitoring system or a baiting system which will tell you in advance if you are likely to have a termite problem.

We use the Exterra baiting system, which has proved to be the most efficient at monitoring termites. Termites attack existing homes, so you must have a termite inspection done regularly. If you are building a new home or renovating, you must consider what termite prevention solutions are available. Which solution suits you can only be determined after we have done a Termite inspection. This is the same for residential and commercial treatments.

We are fully qualified and licensed, as are all our technicians. Our office is computerised, so we can design a complete pest management program for you so you know when your property needs to be inspected and, if necessary, treated for insects or nuisance pests.

Give us a call on 02 4577 4461, and we will come and inspect and treat your property for termites.
